“Was it weird for you?”

“No.”

“Was it good?”

Alice shifted from her seat on his lap, nibbling on her coco jam pandesal. They were back in clothes, on her couch, resuming their breakfast. “Were my screams not loud enough for you? It’s because I don’t know how thin these walls are. We have neighbors and I have to keep living here.”

“Okay.” Son snorted and giggled like an actual schoolboy, complete with a blush that lit up his cheeks and crept all the way down his toes. His hand folded around Alice’s leg, tugging her closer to him. She gave him the last bite of her pandesal, stamped with a kiss on his smiling mouth. This was so awesome.

Alice brushed crumbs off his cheek, her fingers grazing his chin. “Was it weird for you?”

“No.” He met her searching eyes. “I’ve been in love with you since you were in pigtails and got the worst of it when hormones were all the rage and raging.”

They burst out laughing. He figured they were both transported to memories of awkward adolescent times. Those weren’t the best of times.

Son cradled her cheek in his palm, calling her back to him. “I’ve wanted you like this for too long. Now that it’s happened…”

Alice pursed her lips then grinned, eyebrow cocking. “I’m good, aren’t I?”

Son laughed. Because his heart was full. Because Alice was beautiful and his and he was hers. “You’re splendid. Perfect.”

“Don’t you forget it.”

Alice was laughing now too, her arm perched lightly around his shoulder. Her body melted against his. He had done it, clawed his way out of his foolish teenage mistakes and found the way back to her. Found their way forward together. He wasn’t going to mess this up.

He ran his fingers through her hair, his thumb indenting circles on her temple as she returned to toying with his curls. He touched his lips against hers, again and again, in a perfect rhythm to pose a promise.

“I’m not going to be the idiot who dared.”
